The variety of game modes is also wireless. Ships have a different appearance depending on the faction, but for all purposes they are exactly the same. Three classes of ships are proposed for both sides: the flagship is heavy, but extremely powerful, the wrestler is light, but fast, and the boofmer is somewhere in between, but can only place bombs in the rear. What we have is a fast paced 12 player marksman game from top to bottom. It’s as Star Trek as Star Trek: D-A-C gets. Each side has three ships to choose from, but only two of them are from the movie: the USS Enterprise and this giant Romulan mining ship that puts red paint in the cores of the planet. The two sites available, Starfleet and the Romulan Empire, are clearly Star Trek. But this top-down arcade marksman game XBLA is so thin, so devoid of any lasting appeal, that it looks like a scam, despite the fact that it costs 800 ms points.
It is a pity that the game, released in connection with the film, is such a bitter and unnecessary disappointment. Yes, this Star Trek movie, protected from time travel silly, was about as good as a Star Trek movie could be. The new Star Trek movie wasn’t bad, was it? Great special effects, good cast, spectacular action and the weird funny, too.
